MODEL RELEASED. Female obesity. Nurse measuring the waist of an obese 45-year-old woman. The patient has a waist-to-hip ratio of greater than 0.8. The waist-to-hip ratio is an indication of whether a person has excess fat being deposited around their internal organs (visceral fat) rather than being harmlessly deposited under the skin (subcutaneous fat). A ratio of more than 0.8 in women, and 1.0 in men, means that they have an increased risk of developing heart disease, diabetes or a stroke.
Model release available. Property release not required.
