Acute plaque psoriasis. This is a condition in which epithelial cells are over-produced, and form these well-differentiated lesions. The redness is often covered with silvery scales of skin. The cause of psoriasis is unknown, but some inheritance factor has been reported as has a connection with stress disorders. Treatment is normally by palliative creams based on coal tar, although acute cases such as this are treated with corticosteroid drugs or ultraviolet light (PUVA).
