Petechiae. A rash of petechiae on a child's face following an episode of vomiting. This rash, also called a purpura, is caused by bleeding of tiny blood capillaries under the surface of the skin. The red dots are called petechiae. There are many different causes of purpura, including: disorders of blood capillaries; deficiency of blood plate- lets; and capillary wall damage due to infection, allergy, toxins or malnutrition. Treatment depends on the cause.
