Pleurisy. Light micrograph of a section through lung tissue showing pleurisy, an inflammation of the pleural membrane that lines the lungs and chest cavity. It is usually caused by an infection such as pneumonia, and causes sharp pain, especially when inhaling. Treatment is of the underlying cause, but painkilling drugs can help to ease the symptoms. Magnification unknown.
