Psoriasis at the hairline on a 31 year old woman's face. Psoriasis is a condition in which skin is produced much faster than normal. This causes the formation of scaly, raised patches of thick skin, which are often itchy and may become infected. Psoriasis may be caused by stress, some infections or certain drugs, although in many cases there is no obvious cause. Treatment is aimed at the cause if it is known, but if not then emollient creams, phototherapy and drug treatments can be used.
