Pemphigus blister inside a patient's mouth. Pemphigus is a severe autoimmune disorder, a disorder where the body's immune system attacks its own tissues. In pemphigus, the immune system attacks skin proteins, leading to blistering, sores and loss of skin. It can be fatal if left untreated, although steroid drugs can be used to control the condition.
