Caption

Bacterial lung infection. Computer artwork of rod- shaped bacteria (bacilli) on the surface of the alveoli of the lungs, causing a lower respiratory tract infection. This is more generally known as pneumonia, though that term can also be reserved for specific types of infection. Severe lung infections are diagnosed by X-ray and treated by antibiotics. The alveoli are the areas where gases are exchanged between the air in the lungs and the blood.
