Pyoderma ulcers on the fingers of a 72 year old man following a kidney transplant. These are pus- producing ulcers caused by the disease pyoderma gangrenosum. This is thought to be an autoimmune disorder, one in which the body's immune system attacks its own tissues. Treatment is with steroids and immunosuppressant drugs, although it can take many months for the ulcer to heal.
