This composite set of axial (cross sectional) MRI images from an infant reveals widespread cortical thickening with narrowing of the underlying white matter in addition to lack of normal arborization of the white matter into the subcortical regions bilaterally. This represents widespread pachygyria which is in the spectrum of neuronal migration disorders. These are usually due to an in utero insult to the fetus.
