Caption

Pyoderma ulcer (yellow) on a 56 year old man's shin. Pyoderma ulcers form in patients with the condition pyoderma gangrenosum, where pus-producing ulcers often form on the lower limbs, as here, and are thought to be due to blood supply problems. The patient also has Wegener's granulomatosis, a rare vascular disorder where blood vessel inflammation (vasculitis) causes the formation of granuloma (inflammatory lesions). This condition may be partly responsible for the ulcer development.
