Depression. Side view of a woman holding her head in her hands while suffering from depression. She is looking downwards in a sad or stressful mood indicating hopelessness or general loss of interest in life. Depression may range from mild feelings of melancholy and tearfulness to, in the most severe cases, delusions and even hallucination in schizophrenia. Most people, however, experience more mild symptoms of depression at some time in their life. It is usually in response to events such as a death in the family, loneliness, stress, unemployment, or following a pregnancy.
