Autistic boy with his mother. Autism is a neurobiological disorder that affects social skills, which develops before the age of three. Children suffering from autism often have difficulty with communication, reading the body language of others and with processing of emotional states. The causes of autism are uncertain, but evidence suggests that it may be a genetic disease. Special schooling and behavioural therapy may be required. This mother is helping her son with communication skills, by using a special learning method. The book they are reading is written in Hebrew. Photographed in Amsterdam, Holland.
