It is a disorder of fair skinned people in which the sebaceous glands become overgrown. Recurrent or fixed redness, swelling, prominent capillaries, papules and pustules may affect the skin. The condition occurs on the nose, forehead, cheeks and chin. It is more common after middle age and is associated with facial flushing. The eyes may also be affected, causing a painful keratitis (rosacea keratitis). Treatment is with long term antibiotic drug therapy.
