Sinusitis. Coloured axial (horizontal) computed tomography (CT) scan of the face of patient with sinisitis (sinus infection and inflammation). The right maxillary sinus (black, upper left) contains mucus (orange) resulting from the infection. The scan level is below the eyes, through the nose (top centre). The paranasal sinuses are facial bone cavities (black) that connect with the nose. They include the maxillary sinuses (upper left and right) inside the cheek bones. Other paranasal sinuses include the ethmoidal sinuses (centre) and the sphenoidal sinuses (lower centre) of bones behind the nose. Treatment of sinusitis is with antibiotic drugs and decongestants.
