Soto's syndrome. Curved spine (scoliosis) of a 25 year old man with Soto's syndrome. This is a rare genetic disorder where excessive growth is seen in the first 2-3 years of life. This can lead to the lateral deformation of the spine seen here. Other symptoms may include mild mental retardation, hypotonia (low muscle tone), clumsiness and speech impairments. The syndrome is not life-threatening and the abnormalities usually resolve with time.
