Quinsy. Close-up of the mouth of a 43-year-old man showing an abscess (yellow, bottom centre) in the tissue around his tonsil (quinsy). Quinsy, also known as a peritonsillar abscess, usually occurs after tonsillitis (inflammation of the tonsils). Symptoms include a sore throat and difficulty swallowing. Quinsy is usually treated with antibiotic drugs. In severe cases, the abscess may need to be surgically drained.
