This fistula, a passage between internal organs and the surface of the body, has become infected and pus has accumulated (empyema). The fistula is present due to Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria, which causes pulmonary tuberculosis (TB). The empyema may be a secondary infection due to the TB.
