Tuberculosis. Baby with drug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) under a respiration hood to help with breathing. Pulmonary TB is an infection of the lungs by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This can cause severe scarring of the lungs and is usually treated with antibiotics. The drug-resistant strains develop when incorrect or incomplete treatment is given. The drug- resistant form is difficult to treat and sometimes surgery is needed to remove the infected areas of the lungs. Photographed in Thailand.
