Typhoid rash on a patient's foot. Typhoid is a disease caused by the bacterium Salmonella typhi. It is transmitted in food and water contaminated by faeces. Symptoms include initial constipation followed by diarrhoea, abdominal pain, fever and rash. Severe cases can lead to intestinal bleeding and death. Treatment is with antibiotics.
