Venous ulcer of ankle. Close up view of an ankle showing a venous ulcer on the outside of the ankle (lateral malleolus). Ulceration is due to the poor drainage (stasis) and healing of the skin caused by the varicose veins seen running below it. Treatment is by elevation of the leg and regular dressings to the ulcer.
