Ulcer. Large ulcer on the foot of a patient due to varicose veins. Varicose veins are veins that become tortuous and twisted due to poor blood flow. This can lead to areas of tissue dying due to a lack of oxygen. Such areas may become infected, especially in people with weakened immune systems. The ulcer will need to be cleaned and dressed, and may require surgery. Photographed in Africa.
