Pressure sore on a patient's leg. This pressure sore (decubitus ulcer) resulted from the ankle being in a plaster cast. Constant pressure on an area of skin causes it to break down, leading to infection. Infected sores enlarge and deepen over time. The affected area is dressed, and antibiotics are taken to prevent infection of the sore.
