Runny nose. Young girl with rhinitis due to hay fever blows her nose on a paper tissue. Rhinitis is an irritant inflammation of the lining of the upper nasal tract. In hay fever, it occurs because of allergies to certain pollens. Sneezing, a runny nose, and watering of the eyes are typical symptoms. Rhinitis is also a symptom of the common cold and influenza.
