Coloured X-ray showing the dislocation of the elbow joint, the joint between the humerus (top right), the ulna (bottom centre) and the radius (right of ulna). In normal conditions the top of the ulna is attached to the bottom part of the humerus, whereas here the ends of the two bones have slipped past each other, tearing the ligaments. The treatment consists of manipulating the bones back into their correct position which may require a surgical operation. The joint is then immobilised by means of a splint or plaster cast in order for healing to take place.
