Bruising after a blood test. View of a woman's arm showing a large bruise which developed after blood had been taken for testing. A bruise is a discoloured area under the skin caused by the leakage of blood. Bruises normally appear blue or black at first, but gradually turn yellow as the haemoglobin in the blood breaks down.
