Broken upper armbone. X-ray image of a fractured humerus, the bone of the upper arm. At centre, the site of fracture can be seen, which has severed the armbone in half. This is a displaced fracture, in which the broken bone is out of alignment. At lower left is the shoulder joint; at lower right is the joint of the elbow with the ulna and radius bones of the forearm at extreme right. The body of the patient is at lower frame. Treatment of a fracture includes realignment of the bone ends, immobilization by external splints or internal fixation (such as the use of steel pins), followed by rehabilitation.
