Dog bite. Close-up of healing wound on the shin due to a dog bite. The wound is scabbed over and there is scar tissue forming at either end of the laceration. The skin surrounding the wound is red and inflamed, possibly indicating a residual infection. Dog bite wounds are usually cleaned and then left open to heal to prevent abscess formation. Antibiotic drugs are usually prescribed to combat infection. Anti-tetanus treatment may be given.
