Stab wound. Close up of a penetrating stab wound to a part of the human body. This penetrating wound is caused by a sharp object such as a knife. Stab wounds such as this can be deceptive, as there is no indication to the extent of internal injury. Depending on the degree of infection and internal injury, this wound may be covered in several layers of sterile gauze and bandaged. Otherwise exploratory surgery may be required to assess internal damage.
