The left cerebral hemisphere of the brain is seen (at upper image) with tissue damage visible at right and at upper centre. Such damage may be caused by traffic accidents, sports injuries , falls or assaults. Brain damage may tear blood vessels leading to haemorrhaging, or cause the brain to swell. Symptoms range from headaches to amnesia, paralysis & unconscious- ness. Treatment depends on the extent of damage but may involve surgery.
