Achilles tendinitis. Swollen achilles tendon seen on the left leg of a 42 year-old man caused by achilles tendinitis as a result of wearing new boots. The achilles tendon pulls up the back of the heel, it is formed from the calf muscles and attached to the heel bone. Minor injuries, caused by excessive exercise, faulty running technique, or wearing incorrect footwear, can result in achilles tendinitis. This inflammation of the tendon and tearing of the tendon fibres is cleared up by rest & physiotherapy.
