Broken leg. Nurse injecting antibiotics into a man's arm to treat a septicaemia infection of his pinned leg fracture. His leg was broken by a runaway wheel that struck him from behind after coming off a car as it sped around a corner. Following an X-ray, the fractured bones were realigned and immobilized using an external frame pinned to the bone. Unfortunately, the frame led to septicaemia, tissue death caused by the absorption of disease-causing bacteria or their toxins from the blood. The antibiotics erythromycin, penicillin and clarithromycin are being administered to treat the infection.
