Haematoma on the hand of a 69 year old woman. A haematoma is an accumulation of clotted blood in body tissues, usually caused by a ruptured blood vessel. The swelling may cause considerable pain, in which case the haematoma may be lanced and drained. Most haematomas disappear naturally after a few days.
