Bruised leg. Circular bruise (red) on the thigh of a 42-year-old man. The bruise was caused by the impact of a squash ball. The bruising is caused by the rupture of small blood vessels in the skin. It will heal over a period of time, though a range of colours may be seen as the clotted blood is reabsorbed by the body.
