Elbow fracture, coloured X-ray. The bone fracture (purple) is in the upper arm bone (humerus, upper frame), just above the elbow. The elbow joint (centre left) is where the humerus joins to the two lower arm bones (radius and ulna, lower right). One way of assisting the healing process is to surgically implant metal screws or plates, a process known as pinning, to secure the bone fragments in the correct alignment while they heal. For X-rays of the pinned elbow from two different angles, see images M330 1066 and M330 1067.
