Sprained wrist. Woman using a modern device designed to immobilise the wrist as it recovers from a sprain. A sprain is an injury where the muscles, ligaments and tendons of a joint have been excessively stretched. This can lead to swelling and pain, especially from moving the injured joint. The adjustable splint can be tightened to immobilise the wrist, but also loosened to maintain blood circulation to and from the hand.
