Caption

Nuclear medicine bone scan with an acute compression fracture of a vertebral body. There is increased radioisotope deposition at the site of the acute T12 compression fracture. Nuclear bone scans involve the injection of a radioisotope into a vein and photographing the skeleton several hours later using specialized nuclear medicine cameras. The isotope is deposited in areas of normal bone metabolism. Areas of abnormal bone metabolism or destruction absorb abnormal levels of the isotope.
