Dislocated shoulder. Coloured frontal X-ray of the bones of a dislocated shoulder joint. Dislocation (also known as luxation) is where the bones of a joint move out of alignment, often with damage to the surrounding soft tissues. Here, the top of the humerus (upper arm bone, centre left) has slipped out of its socket in the shoulder blade (centre right). The collarbone (clavicle) is at upper right. The humerus will be manipulated back into position, and the joint will be rested to allow the ligaments and other soft tissue to heal.
