Caption

Fractured shoulder. Coloured frontal X-ray of the shoulder bones of a 60-year-old patient with a fracture of part of the humerus (upper arm bone). The head of the humerus is at upper centre (round) with bone fragments above it from a fracture of the lesser tuberosity of the humerus. Below the head of the humerus is the shaft of the humerus. To the right of the head of the humerus is its socket in the scapula (shoulder blade). Across top is the collarbone (clavicle). This type of fracture requires surgery to fix the bone fragments in place so that they can heal.
