Caption

Fractured shin bone. Coloured X-rays of a fracture of the tibia (shin bone), the thicker of the two leg bones. The fracture is in the lower half of the tibia. The X-ray at right is a side view (with the front of the leg at left). The X-ray on the left is a frontal view. The X-ray also shows the resin cast that has been used to immobilise the leg and allow the bone to heal. X-rays are taken to see whether the bones are healing properly.
