Fractured arm. Coloured X-ray of a broken bone in the forearm of a 56 year old woman. The radius, the arm bone at left, is fractured near the wrist. It was fractured when the patient fell on her outstretched hand. The bone will be immobilised, either externally, using a cast, or internally, using metal pins, to allow it to heal. It is important that a bone is correctly aligned if it is to heal properly and avoid future complications.
