Healing hand wound. Image 3 of 3. This wound on the hand of an 89-year-old woman had got infected two weeks earlier, despite being thoroughly cleaned and dressed by a nurse. It is now being treated with a course of antibiotics. The patient has been on long-term steroid use for rheumatic disorder. One of the common side-effects of long-term topical steroid use is the thinning of the skin, increasing the likelihood of tearing it. See M330/1613 for the infection before treatment. Also see M330/1606 for the wound prior to infection.
