Deformed ankle after fracture. Coloured frontal X-ray of the left ankle of a male patient, showing an old fracture that healed incorrectly. The ankle is the joint where the lower leg bones, the tibia (shin bone, top left) and fibula (top right), articulate with the bones of the foot (lower centre). There is extra bone growth around the fracture scar (upper centre) in the tibia, which has caused the fibula to bow outwards around it. It is important that a bone is correctly aligned if it is to heal properly and avoid future complications. See M330/1674 for a profile image of this condition.
