Superficial phlebitis in a 64 year old man's leg after a football injury. Phlebitis is an inflammation of a vein that causes a painful, swollen, red and hot area on the skin. It may be caused by trauma, infection or surgery. Treatment is with anti-inflammatory drugs and the wearing of support bandages.
