Layering a clematis. Image 1 of 6. Gardener laying down a low-growing mature clematis stem (Clematis sp.) over a buried pot filled with gritty compost and topped with rooting powder. The stem will produce a separate root system contained in the pot, after which it can be separated from the parent plant.
