Infected laparoscopy scar. Close up of a wound following the passage of a laparascope through the skin of a female patient (centre of photograph). The incision following this procedure is normally invisible but this patient has a dark pink area extending beyond a crusting lesion at the lower border. The laparascope is an illuminated tubular instrument which allows direct examination of the abdominal structures. It is often used for examining the ovaries and fallopian tubes as well as performing one method of sterilization. As in all surgical procedures there is a small risk of infection with every operation.
