Lipectomy scar. A scar seen across the abdomen of a 49 year-old female patient after surgery to remove excessive fat, known as a lipectomy. Lipectomy is a type of cosmetic surgery where fat is sucked out of an incision made in the skin. The post-operative scar consists of a tough fibrous protein, collagen, which helps to form new connective tissue covering the area of the wound. After surgery, the edges of the incision are brought together and sutured to allow healing to take place.
