Heart surgery chest scar on a 67-year-old man who has undergone a coronary artery bypass operation. The operation involved making this long incision and then opening up the chest cavity by breaking the sternum (central bone of ribcage), to access the heart underneath. A vein was taken from the patient's leg and used to bypass a blockage in a coronary artery of the heart. These coronary arteries supply oxygenated blood to the heart, and blockages can cause angina pectoris (heart pain) or a heart attack. Photographed 2 weeks after the operation.
