Infected scar on breast. Infected scar on the breast of an 85-year-old woman after an operation to remove a cancerous tumour. The infection, which may be treated with antibiotics, occurred after the wound was drained. Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women. It is commonly first detected when a lump is felt in the breast or armpit. This may be accompanied by discharge or bleeding from the nipple. The usual treatment is surgical excision of the tumour or even the whole breast. Radiotherapy and hormone treatment may also be administered.
