Laparotomy scar. Scar on the abdomen of a 42-year- old female patient following surgery to remove a cancerous tumour (adenocarcinoma) from the ovary. This was taken one week after the operation. Adenocarcinoma is a type of cancer involving epithelial cells that line different organs of the body. Treatment is usually by surgical removal of the tumour, and also with chemotherapy. There is some swelling and redness at the base of the surgical wound, showing that it has become infected.
