Caption

Joint replacement scar. Scar on the right index finger of a 73-year-old man, two months after joint replacement surgery for osteoarthritis. The diseased bone and cartilage have been cut away and replaced by artificial joints. Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis. It results from wear and tear on the joints, and is characterised by the chronic degredation of the cartilage of the joints.
